Grade band

Elementary: number sense, fluent reading, careful looking.

Younger students need short lessons, lots of examples, and language they can repeat. Number sense includes place value, comparing numbers, and explaining a strategy, not only a correct answer.

Reading includes phonics, fluency, and talking about a character’s feelings with a sentence starter. Science is observing, measuring with nonstandard and standard units, and drawing what you saw. Social studies begins with community helpers, maps of the school, and calendars.
